Hi, I’m Gavin.
I’m a software engineer and avid amateur runner. I really enjoy posting my workouts to Strava; it helps keep me accountable and I like being able to cheer on fellow athletes and see their progress over time. However, I don’t think that Strava currently gives out enough information about athletes’ training context for others to follow along in the most meaningful ways.
Take, for example, a fictional runner named Jess. It’s awesome that Jess went out and did an 8 mile run at 8:30 min/mi, but without any information about what her goals and upcoming races are it’s difficult to evaluate that particular run in context and provide meaningful support. Is she training for a half marathon in a few weeks time with a goal pace around 8:30 min/mi? If so, that 8 mile training run at goal pace is a huge accomplishment. Is she training for a sub 3 hour marathon in a few months time, in which case the 8 mile run at 8:30min/mi is just base miles? We have no idea. What happens on race day? On Strava all we currently see is that Jess ran a 3:35 marathon. Was this a disappointment? A huge success? We have no idea.
That’s why I built RaceMegaphone. You can enter your race information and optionally your goals and training plan information. It’ll then automatically post that information to your Strava activities as you do them. Your followers will then know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it without any ongoing effort on your part. Just make sure your racing calendar is up to date on RaceMegaphone and it’ll add your racing information to your running activity descriptions in Strava.
I would love to be able to give this service away for free. However, I do need to cover my development and hosting costs. I think that offering this service at a reasonable $5 per year is a nice balance between covering my costs and community access.
I monitor support@racemegaphone.com so feel free to reach out if you have questions or need help.
Cheers,
Gavin
